First Year - Start Early

  • Attend on-campus career events
  • Start a draft of your résumé
  • Establish effective study habits

  • Talk to faculty, students, and career advisors about majors and careers

Second Year - Continue Exploration

  • Attend campus alumni/alumnae programs
  • Choose a major that you will enjoy studying for the next two years
  • Take on more leadership roles
  • Join at least one professional organization related to your major
  • Start networking
  • Get to know your professors

Third Year - Get Specific

  • Narrow your career interest areas
  • Find out more about career opportunities related to your major
  • Attend on and off campus job fairs that relate to your interests
  • Shadow a professional in your field
  • Talk with potential employers about what they are looking for in potential employees

Fourth Year - Perform the Job Search

  • Finalize your course selection and make sure to meet graduation requirements
  • Register with Career Planning & Development early
  • Participate in our Mock Interview program
  • Research the companies you plan to pursue
  • Draft a résumé and cover letter that can be adapted for a variety of employers and start submitting to your list of employers
