"What can I do with a Major in..."

Majors sheets entitled "What can I do with a Major in..." offer ideas for various majors and career interests. Job titles, types of employment, and suggestions to increase the likelihood of getting a job in the field can be printed from this electronic database created by UT-Knoxville. (Note: Not all UNA majors are listed exactly as we list them...please find the one most similar for equivalent information..)


Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The MBTI is an assessment that describes personality preferences based on the choices made on the multiple-choice inventory. It is often used in working with groups to determine personality differences or similarities and can be interpreted individually or in groups. The fee for this assessment is $5 per individual.


Strong Interest Inventory

The Strong (SII) inventory measures interests and working styles and indicates occupations that people with similar interests have chosen. The Strong can be taken on line in the Career Planning & Development office for a $10 fee. The results will be interpreted on an individual basis with an advisor.


Career Exploration Inventory

The CEI offers students a chance to look at their past, current, and future work, leisure, and learning activities to guide them to general fields and specific occupations of interest. There is a nominal fee for this assessment


Individual Consultation

A Mica Lacefield, Career Counselor, is available by appointment for individual consultations on career/major choice, the job search, resume advice, and other career-related topics.


Books and Videos on Careers

The Occupational Information section of the career library, located in the Career Planning & Development office, has resources on over 70 different general fields encompassing a multitude of individual job titles. The Job Search section includes titles on the job search, networking, professional image and etiquette, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and success on the job. Other sections include self-help books, choosing a major and career, and directories of business, industry, education, and other professional areas.


Online Assessments

Numerous online assessments are offered on the Internet. These are best used in collaboration with the career counselor and other standardized assessments.
